I started photographing birds when my father gave me a camera for my 12th birthday. I found a dead House Sparrow and propped it up in the grass trying to make it look natural (a failure).  My first college degree was in Wildlife Management from the University of Montana. The second in Mechanical Engineering from Portland Community College.  And after 23 years as a building inspector, retirement.  Now I can go back to what I REALLY love, nature.  Mostly birds, but if a seven-point Royal Elk presents itself I won't tun it down.  Hasn't happened yet, though.

I have contributed over the past few years by starting and running the Crooked river Ranch Birders' Group.  While building our new home here I attended both the Prineville and Bend Birding groups and noticed that we have many people here at the Ranch who feed birds, but do not want to drive 30 miles to attend a meeting, so I started a group here.  I now have over 150 people on my membership list as well as 150 birds on my Crooked River Ranch Bird list.  I have given birding slide show/talks to local groups, Lions, camera clubs, school classes and more.  It's fun and exposes some folk to birding from a different standpoint.
