Steve's first birding experience was identifying starlings with 6 power plastic bins straight from a kid's spy kit - age 4.  No turning back.  Since then he has become completely mad about birds having traveled and birded widely in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.  After leaving High school in England he worked as a conservation warden at a number of nature reserves in the UK, traveled widely and conducted CBC and upland bird and vegetation surveys.  In North America he has worked as a bird bander at Long Point Bird Observatory (Ontario) , Point Reyes Bird Observatory (CA) and Yellowknife North West Territories)(cumulatively for over a year).  More recently he worked for the USGS as a research biologist on the Big Island of Hawaii for 8 years investigating the endemic palila bird and its habitat.  Steve eventually secured a BSc degree in Ecology and Conservation from the University of Sussex, UK.   Now living in Redmond, Deschutes County, Oregon Steve works for Crook County carrying out GIS, mapping and database solutions for a varied group of projects.  He has been involved with ECBC since Jan 2005 and hopes to remain active for many years.
